More Than a Backyard

Turn Your Yard Into Your Favorite Room

The best outdoor living spaces in Northeast Ohio are not just patios with furniture. They are fully designed environments with defined zones for cooking, dining, lounging, and entertaining, all built with materials that handle everything Ohio throws at them from January ice storms to August humidity.

At Stark Elite, we approach outdoor spaces the same way we approach interior remodels: with a design plan, structural engineering, quality materials, and attention to every detail. Whether you want a simple fire pit area for weekend gatherings or a complete outdoor kitchen with stone counters, a built-in grill, and a covered dining area, we build it to last and to look like it belongs.

We work with natural stone, composite decking, pavers, cedar, and concrete to create outdoor spaces that complement your home’s architecture. Every project includes proper drainage, electrical planning for lighting and outlets, and gas line routing for fire features and grills. We handle all permits with Stark County and Summit County building departments.

Outdoor living is not about picking furniture and hoping for good weather. It is about engineering a space that extends your home’s living area into the fresh air, rain or shine.

What We Build

Custom Outdoor Living Features

Every outdoor living project is different because every family uses their backyard differently. We design and build individual features or complete outdoor environments that combine multiple elements into a cohesive space.

Outdoor Kitchens

Complete outdoor cooking stations with built-in grills, countertops, sinks, refrigeration, and storage. We use granite, concrete, and natural stone countertops paired with stainless steel appliances rated for outdoor use. Gas line installation, electrical wiring for lighting and outlets, and proper ventilation are included in every outdoor kitchen build. Our designs range from compact grilling stations to full chef-grade setups with pizza ovens, smokers, and wet bars.

Pergolas & Shade Structures

Custom-built pergolas in cedar, pressure-treated lumber, or vinyl that provide shade and define outdoor rooms. We build freestanding pergolas, attached structures that extend from your home, and hybrid designs with retractable canopies for adjustable sun coverage. Every pergola is engineered for Northeast Ohio wind loads and snow accumulation, with footings poured below the frost line for permanent stability.

Fire Pits & Fireplaces

Gas and wood-burning fire features that extend your outdoor season well into fall and start it earlier in spring. We build custom stone fire pits, linear gas fire tables, and full outdoor fireplaces with mantels and seating walls. Gas fire features include buried gas line installation with shut-off valves. Wood-burning options include proper spark screens and ash management systems. Every fire feature meets Ohio fire code setback requirements.

Screened Porches

Fully enclosed screen rooms that let you enjoy the outdoors without mosquitoes, gnats, or other insects common in the Stark County and Summit County summers. Built on deck frames or existing patio surfaces, screened porches include proper roofing, screen panel systems, and optional ceiling fans and lighting. A screened porch is the most cost-effective way to add a three-season room to your home.

Three-Season Living

Maximize Ohio’s Outdoor Months

With the right design decisions, your outdoor living space can be comfortable and functional from April through November. Here is how we build for each part of Ohio’s outdoor season.

Spring (April – May)

Covered structures and screened porches let you enjoy the first warm days without getting rained on during Ohio’s wettest season. Proper drainage keeps your outdoor floors dry and usable. Fire features take the edge off cool spring evenings so you can sit outside longer.

Summer (June – August)

Pergolas and shade sails provide relief from direct sun during peak summer heat. Outdoor kitchens keep the cooking heat outside your house, lowering your AC bills. Screened porches block mosquitoes and other insects that peak during Ohio’s humid months.

Fall (September – November)

Fire pits and outdoor fireplaces extend your outdoor season by two to three months. Gas fire features let you have instant warmth with a switch. Covered dining areas let you enjoy fall colors and football watching outdoors even during light rain.

Common Questions

Outdoor Living FAQs

How much does an outdoor kitchen cost in Northeast Ohio?
Outdoor kitchen costs in the Stark County and Summit County area range from $8,000 for a basic grilling station with countertop and storage to $50,000 or more for a full outdoor kitchen with stone veneer, granite counters, sink, refrigerator, pizza oven, and built-in seating. Most of our customers invest between $15,000 and $30,000 for a well-equipped outdoor cooking and dining area. We provide detailed line-item pricing in every estimate.
Can outdoor living features be used in Ohio winters?
Some features work year-round with the right design. Gas fire pits and outdoor fireplaces can be used safely throughout winter. Covered structures with optional heaters extend comfort into colder months. However, outdoor kitchens and water features should be winterized when temperatures consistently drop below freezing to prevent pipe and appliance damage. We design all features with Ohio winters in mind and include winterization guidance with every project.
Do I need permits for outdoor living construction?
Most outdoor living projects in Stark and Summit Counties require permits, especially those involving new structures, gas line installation, or electrical work. Fire features may require additional setback compliance. Stark Elite handles all permit applications and inspections as part of our service. We ensure every project meets local building codes and fire safety regulations before construction begins.
How long does an outdoor living project take?
Timeline depends on the scope of the project. A standalone fire pit can be completed in 2 to 3 days, while a complete outdoor kitchen with pergola and patio may take 3 to 6 weeks. Permit processing adds 1 to 2 weeks before construction starts. We provide a detailed schedule with every proposal so you know exactly when each phase will be completed.
What materials hold up best in Ohio weather?
Natural stone and concrete are the most durable choices for outdoor structures in Northeast Ohio because they handle freeze-thaw cycles without deterioration. For countertops, granite and concrete outlast tile in outdoor applications. Cedar and composite materials work well for pergolas and covered structures. We avoid materials that absorb water and crack in freezing temperatures, which eliminates most softwoods and certain types of manufactured stone from our recommendations.
