The Engineering That Keeps Wine at 55 Degrees
Every element below is invisible in the finished photos and decisive in year ten. This is where cellar builds succeed or fail.
Vapor Barrier & Insulation
The single most important detail: a sealed six-mil vapor barrier and R-19 or better insulation in walls and ceiling, so the cooling unit is not fighting the house all day.
Dedicated Cooling
A purpose-built cellar cooling unit sized to the room. Standard HVAC cannot hold the steady 55 degrees and 50 to 70 percent humidity wine needs.
Sealed Door
Insulated, weatherstripped, with no daylight at the frame. Glass doors get thermal-pane glass with UV coating so the collection is displayed without being cooked.
Custom Racking
Wood or metal racking designed for what you actually collect. Burgundy, Bordeaux, Champagne, and magnums all rack differently, and we build for your mix.
Low-Heat Lighting
LED only, placed for display without adding heat the cooling system then has to remove. Dimmable for tastings.
The Right Floor
Tile, stone, or sealed concrete. Carpet holds moisture and odor and has no place in a cellar.
Tasting Rooms Built for Actual Evenings
Most of our cellar clients want more than storage; they want the room where the good bottles get opened. We build tasting areas with a counter or bar for pours and decanting under warm dimmable light, seating for six to eight, stemware and decanter storage within reach, and a serving fridge separate from the cellar so whites and reds come out at pouring temperature rather than storage temperature.
The scale runs from a converted closet holding a few hundred bottles to a dedicated room with custom racking, and up to full showcase cellars with bar, dining, and integrated audio. Each is its own scope, engineered the same way, and put in writing before we open a wall. If the cellar is part of a larger downstairs plan, we fold it into the basement finish so the climate envelope is designed in from the start. Finished basement and bar work is in the gallery.
Stability is what wine wants. A cellar that swings five degrees a day does more damage than one that sits slightly warm and never moves.

Feasibility Visit
We assess the space for insulation potential, cooling exhaust paths, and moisture, and tell you plainly whether it can hold cellar conditions.
Design
Envelope engineering, cooling unit sizing, racking layout around your collection, lighting, and finishes, all fixed on paper.
Build & Seal
Vapor barrier, insulation, electrical, cooling install, door, finishes, and racking, with the envelope tested before the wine moves in.
Commission
We run the room to temperature, verify humidity holds steady, walk the punch list with you, and hand over a cellar ready for the collection.
